Experience:
Mark has focused his entire career on the visual arts as a museum director, curator,
educator, and consultant. In 1999, after 25 years working in non-profit institutions,
he decided to devote himself to advising clients, building collections, and helping
the public better understand art and the art business through his writing and
teaching. He has written hundreds of articles, organized as many exhibitions,
and collaborated with thousands of artists on exhibitions, installations, and
projects. Mark has his M.A. in Art History and Museum Studies from George Washington
University and M.A. in Art History from the University of Pennsylvania, and postgraduate
certification from the Museum Management Institute at the University of California,
Berkley.
Current Projects:
Mark is working with the Tampa Museum of Art to coordinate the implementation
of a federal Institute for Museum Services Grant focused on the expanding potential
audiences for the museum’s permanent collection. He teaches a course about
the business of art for Ringling School of Art and Design undergraduates. He
also works with artists and clients to create synergy that satisfies both, through
commissions, projects, and purchases.
Insights into Mark:
Mark collects ideas and images through contact with people in the arts. When
he is not in a museum or gallery or artist’s studio, he is writing, reading,
traveling, or cooking with friends.
